Green
Room. if you haven’t seen it yet, “fuckkk……” finish reading this and
then go find it at a theater or on VOD. if you have seen it,
“FUCKKK……” HOW BAT-SHIT CRAZY IS THIS MOVIE?!?
for
those of you who haven’t seen it, a struggling punk band about ready to
just head back home goes to play a final add-on gig for some extra
money. oh, and Sir Patrick Stewart is in it. that’s basically all you
need to know, and trust me, you don’t want to know anything else,
because, again, THIS MOVIE IS BAT-SHIT CRAZY. don’t allow anyone to
spoil any of it for you.
since
i was about 8 i’ve been around live music, at age 17 i tossed away
scholarship money to make music my entire life. there’s something that
resonates so deep inside me with this film, writer/director Jeremy
Saulnier definitely struck a chord (pun intended). i know the struggle
this band is going through, i know the archetypes of the band members, i
know the terrible gigs and the seedy dives, and i know the cool and the
creepy staff of said seedy dives. now with that being said, you don’t
have to be in the music industry to love this movie, it’ll just give you
one extra level of dread and terror.
and
that’s what Green Room gives you. dread and terror. and as the plot
unfolds, that dread and terror is warranted. if you don’t think
something will happen, it’s going to, and worse than you could imagine.
trust your gut, because it’s right. if you think someone is creepy,
they probably are, and they don’t give a crap about you. oh, and it reminded me of something i always tell people: feedback is your friend.
i’m
still digesting this movie, the story, they lighting, the camera angles,
the sound. Stacey and i are still talking about it. i’m looking
forward to seeing my friend Andrew tomorrow to talk about it since i
know he’s seen it. i want to talk to every person on the street about
it. yes, this movie is that damn good.
so do
me a favor. go listen to the Dead Kennedys “In God We Trust, Inc.”
loudly. then go watch this movie. then, after you leave the theater,
go see your favorite band play. and don’t ask for anything free, but
instead tip them heavily.
5/5
